We had so much fun at our 9th annual pie contest! We had 8 entries this year and a lot of delicious options including: pumpkin, mincemeat, apple, rhubarb, sour cream and raisin, strawberry, and two chocolate pies.

And our winners were: Tied for first place Diane Schmillen and Deb Engdahl (picture not available) with their chocolate pies. Second place went to Ellen Plagman for her apple pie. Our judges had a great time taste testing! Left to right: June, Don, and our Nurse Amy.

To show our appreciation for our "sweet" staff on National Caregivers Day, the tenants made some treat bags that were given out at lunch time. We are so thankful for all of our amazing staff and the wonderful job they do!

Valentines Day brought lots of smiles with a steak and shrimp dinner topped off with red velvet cake and sparkling punch, prepared by our great kitchen staff; we crowned our King and Queen of Hearts and ended the day with the wonderful toe-tapping music of A Touch of Broadway!

Don and Evie present a check for over $2000 to Lynn from Cherokee Regional Medical Center Hospice. The money was raised from our annual Garden of Trees and Wreaths event.  "Every year we have a great turn out and really appreciate the community supporting us and hospice. It goes to a great cause and they are great service in our community. We are fortunate to be able to utilize such a wonderful service here at The Gardens." Said Gardens Director, Jana Utesch.

A wonderful time was had by all at our 2018 Tenant Christmas party. Santa delivered presents to every tenant, then we enjoyed live entertainment by the talented Opal Wharton. We followed the show with cookies, cake and punch.

In April, CRMC Hospice held a special pinning ceremony for one of our tenants, Bill. Bill is a US Navy veteran who served in 2 wars, Korea and WWII. Pictured below is Meagan Foresman and Matt Johnson of CRMC recognizing Bill for his service. Thank you CRMC for all you do for our tenants and veterans!

Did you know we have some of the highest food satisfaction rates in the state? We are always serving fresh fruits and veggies at our salad bar which is available every day for lunch and supper!

Easter at The Gardens was a very HOPPY time! We had a magic show, face painting and an Easter egg hunt. So much fun was had by everyone!

Some of our awesome Dietary team, kitchen manager Lindi and Chef Denise working on some new recipes!

We love having Jodi from the Wellness Center come teach us some exercises!

The Gardens staff and tenants took part in the State of Iowa Healthiest State Initiative. We walked 2 laps around the building, equaling about a half mile! Also, what a beautiful view we have here!

We had a great Halloween at The Gardens. First we had Mrs. Trisha Vannatta's pre school class join us for a story, a game of hot potato and a goodie bag. We also had trick or treating open to the public that evening. We had so many kids come we almost ran out of candy!

The kids playing hot potato, and the tenants watching!

Goodie bags!

So many yummy choices!

It is that time of the year when apples are plentiful and delicious. Pictured is George and Elsie peeling apples to bake apple cinnamon rolls! Yum!

We had a great time when former Mayor, Mark Murphy, joined us for community coffee with Mud on Main coffee and cinnamon rolls! Thanks for coming, Mark!

George enjoying a root beer float!

Rodeo Parade 2016! We had staff, tenants and volunteers ride along on our float this year! Special thanks to Grand Meadow Heritage Center for letting us use your wagon!
